Message From Dr. Maestre

I want to begin this week's message by congratulating 10 incredible students who competed in Top Talent Live 2026. We are so proud of Benjamin McCormack, Caleb Cuevas, Jonah Quitos, Kaitlynn Peacock, Makayla Morton, Manuel Landaeta Calderon, Mia Basso, Paxton Burke, Sierra Adams, and Tessa Biuso! Not only did they qualify as finalists with their performance of "Hit the Road Jack", they also won the People's Choice award for having the highest number of individual voters! There was so much talent on the stage and they represented Boone well.

There are a lot of events taking place this week. Senior Common Final Exams are this week (Monday through Thursday), Tuesday is the first of two back-to-back evenings of our Spring Prism Band Concert, Thursday we will start distribution of yearbooks, and Friday we begin the month of May which is the final month of the semester and for the 2025-2026 school year. I encourage all of our Braves to finish this school year strong!

Finally, thank you so much to those of our parents & guardians who answered this year's OCPS Family Survey. The combined results from the 2026 survey will be of immense help with school improvement, a topic which we continually discuss in our monthly School Advisory Council (SAC) meetings. Please remember that our final SAC meeting of the year is coming up on Tuesday, May 5, and that all of our Boone community members are welcome and encouraged to attend.

As always, thank you for reading!

Forever Brave,

Hector Maestre, Ed.D.

Generation AI Workshop

Tech Sassy Girlz hosted a Generation A.I. Workshop for our BHS students. This workshop exposed our students to emerging technologies while encouraging curiosity and interest in STEM careers.  In an intensive, hands-on session, our STEM-bound students worked collaboratively to build a guitar from scratch. Once tuned and powered, they then used an A.I. tool to train a data set on different chords. The event culminated in testing the AI to see if it could recognize the chords. In questioning the data, possible bias, ownership, and accuracy of the results, our students were able to go beyond the screen to explore the ethics, mechanics, and future of artificial intelligence.

Thank You to All of Our Administrative Professionals!

This past Wednesday, we celebrated Administrative Professionals Day. While much of the magic here at Boone happens in the classroom, none of it would be possible without this incredible team. From the first "hello" in the morning to the thousandth phone call of the afternoon, our administrative staff handles it all with grace. They are the keepers of schedules, the behind the scene fixers, and the friendly faces that make our school feel like home.

Please join me in saying a huge Thank You to Ms. Longmire, Ms. Espinoza, Ms. Torres, Ms. Alvarez, Ms. Knapp, Ms. Stelmashenko, Ms. Roberson, Ms. Henry, Ms. Rudd, and Ms. Negron (not pictured) for their tireless dedication to our students, staff, and families!

Braves Rowing

Last weekend, Boone Rowing competed in their Sculling States regatta. The freshman sculling boat took first place in the scholastic division and will be heading to Nationals in May. We wish this team the best of luck this coming weekend in their State Sweeps Regatta.

Academy of Health Sciences

Congratulations to the AOHS seniors! All 50 AOHS seniors passed their industry certification test. They are now Certified EKG technicians! Thank you to Orlando Health for providing the clinical opportunities for students to get hands-on experience.

Brave students today ... Brave healthcare professionals tomorrow!

Orchestra Demo Day!

This past Wednesday, the orchestra invited all Boone teachers and staff to the orchestra room to try learning the violin, viola, cello, or bass. The roles were reversed as students became the teachers, guiding staff members through the basics of their instruments. Teachers had a blast stepping into the world of music and learning a brand-new skill!

Beyond being a fun and engaging experience, this event also helped promote the orchestra’s upcoming Student Instrument Demo Day on May 20th from 1:20–2:20 PM. During this event, current Boone students will have the opportunity to try out an instrument and explore whether joining orchestra might be right for them next school year.
