A Message From Dr. Maestre

Last week, 2026-2027 Quarter 1 report cards were posted online to Skyward Family Access. Students also received a printed copy on green paper to take home. Our overarching goal in reporting student progress is to make it clearer for our Boone families about the growth and learning of every student. Please take the time to review your student's progress from the first nine weeks. When it comes to parental involvement in your child's education, these 1:1 report card discussions are among the most important of the entire school year. This is especially true now, as there is more than enough time left to make learning gains if a student is not quite where they should be.

We have several special events scheduled this week, including the start of our annual Red Ribbon Week Monday. The focus of Red Ribbon Week is on making positive, healthy choices and staying away from drugs, alcohol, and cigarettes. I hope that all of our Braves will show their support for living a healthy lifestyle and taking a stand against drugs.

We are also celebrating with a Spooky Spirit Week with fun dress-up days for our students!
  • Monday: Paranormal PJ Day
  • Tuesday: Superheroes vs. Villains
  • Wednesday: Adam Sandler Day
  • Thursday: Dynamic Duo Day
  • Friday: Freaky Friday - No masks
Grab your friends and bring your creativity. We can’t wait to see what you come up with! We also encourage everyone to come out for our 2nd annual Trunk or Treat Wednesday in the student parking lot beginning at 5:30 pm.

As always, thank you for reading and best wishes for a successful week ahead!

Forever Brave,

Hector Maestre, Ed.D.
Principal

National Honor Society Induction

The Boone High School Chapter of the National Honor Society (NHS) inducted 180 new members this past week! These students exemplify the organization's pillars, and we are excited to see their leadership skills in action this school year.  The 4 pillars of the NHS are:
  • Scholarship - Optimizing educational opportunities and pursuing knowledge.
  • Service - Stepping outside oneself to meet the needs of others.
  • Leadership - Embodying the spirit of initiative, innovation, and influence.
  • Character - Consistent commitment to ethical and compassionate decision making.

Chorus Fall Unity Concert

A packed auditorium of families, friends, and staffulty was treated to an evening of music last week as our chorus presented its annual Fall Concert.

The concert featured all of our choirs and several solo and duo performances (pictured above). The evening culminated in all the choirs singing together with the 200+ members of our program (pictured at the top).

Thank you to Mr. Pollard and Ms. Stoermer, our talented students, and our incredible parent volunteers for helping to make this concert a huge success!

Ms. Carrera presents Fergus Jr. to Mr. Fieler

Fergus decided to head back to the Media Center to hang out with a true school superhero—Kris Fieler!

Mr. Fieler keeps our campus running seamlessly every single day, no matter what tech challenges get thrown his way. Whether he’s making house calls to classrooms or rescuing teachers when technology decides to take an unscheduled day off, Mr. Fieler solves every problem with patience, expertise, and a huge smile on his face. He is the ultimate team player, and no one deserves to host Fergus more!

Financial Aid: Two Applications for Seniors
Financial aid can help make college more affordable through grants, scholarships, work-study and loans. Completing the right applications helps students learn which options may be available to them.

The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is used to determine eligibility for federal aid that students can use in any state. The Florida Financial Aid Application (FFAA) is a separate state application. Students must submit it to be considered for Florida Bright Futures, a scholarship program for eligible Florida high school graduates.

Seniors: Requesting Recommendation Letters
If a college requires a letter of recommendation, check the Common App or Xello to see what you need. Before asking a teacher or school counselor to write your letter, complete the appropriate brag sheet:
Give your recommender at least three weeks’ notice and clearly share each college’s submission deadline. This gives them time to write a thoughtful letter on your behalf.

Lady Braves Golf

The Lady Braves Golf Team recently competed in the Girls Metro Conference Championships at Zellwood Station GC. The team finished 5th overall and 3rd in the tough Metro East. Corinne Searl (pictured) shot a 2-under par 70 to place 4th overall among 66 golfers in the individual standings. This week, the team will compete in the District 5 Championship. Congratulations, girls, and good luck this week!

Boys Bowling

Boys Bowling competed in the District 8 Bowling Championship Tuesday, October 20, at Bowlero Apopka. The Team shot a combined 2,629 pins through 3 games of morning, qualifying to place 2nd overall. After a lunch break, the Braves returned to the lanes to bowl in the Baker Championship bracket, facing off against Lake Highland Prep and Windermere. We were able to defeat Lake Highland twice, winning 3-0 in both best-of-five series. Even though the Boys bowled some of their highest team Baker scores of the day against a very strong Windermere team, we lost in the championship, finishing as District Runner-Up and advancing to the State Championship Tournament at Boardwalk Bowl for the first time since 2018.

Varsity Football Recap

Despite a tough 39–0 final against Winter Park Friday, our Braves showed relentless grit and heart as they celebrated Senior Night in front of an energetic home crowd. While Winter Park capitalized on big plays through the air, Boone’s defensive front kept bringing pressure until the final whistle, forcing difficult throws and showing relentless effort against an explosive Wildcats offensive line. Our Braves never let up, continuing to fight for yardage on offense and keeping their sideline fully engaged through four physical quarters.

Join us this Friday, October 30, as we travel to Edgewater for the Battle of the Barrel! Purchase your ticket in advance on GoFan. Kickoff is at 7:00 pm.
