This past week, we kicked off 2026-2027 Quarter 2, and we enjoyed a smooth transition from one quarter to the next. A quality education is delivered in large part through a cumulative approach to learning, as days and weeks build upon one another. By the time a student reaches the second nine weeks, they should be in full stride in their positive learning habits and commitment to on-time daily attendance. However, even with our best efforts, all of us can use a little extra support along the way. Please set aside time every week to check in with your student and their academic progress. If you have any questions about a specific class, please reach out to the teacher for immediate assistance.
As always, thank you for reading and best wishes for a successful week ahead!
Forever Brave, Hector Maestre, Ed.D. Principal |

Financial Aid: Two Applications for Seniors Financial aid can help make college more affordable through grants, scholarships, work-study and loans. Completing the right applications helps students learn which options may be available to them.
The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is used to determine eligibility for federal aid that students can use in any state. The Florida Financial Aid Application (FFAA) is a separate state application. Students must submit it to be considered for Florida Bright Futures, a scholarship program for eligible Florida high school graduates.
Starting this week, Mrs. Gurley will visit 12th-grade English classes to help seniors start the FAFSA and complete the FFAA. Students should have their Social Security number, if they have one, and a parent’s email address available. Parents who are required to contribute to the FAFSA must complete their own section before the form can be submitted.
Families can learn more at Financial Aid Night Thursday, October 15 at 6:00 p.m. in Boone High School’s Performing Arts Center.
Seniors: Requesting Recommendation Letters If a college requires a letter of recommendation, check the Common App or Xello to see what you need. Before asking a teacher or school counselor to write your letter, complete the appropriate brag sheet: Give your recommender at least three weeks’ notice and clearly share each college’s submission deadline. This gives them time to write a thoughtful letter on your behalf. |
Are you getting ready to tackle the SAT or ACT this semester? We are excited to offer free, weekly after-school tutoring to help Braves score their best on these important college entrance exams!
Whether you want to bump up your math score, master the reading strategies, or simply figure out where to start, our targeted prep sessions are designed to help you build confidence and improve your scores.
No advance registration is required, just drop in with your school laptop or notebook! Have questions or need help registering for an upcoming test date? Drop by the College and Career Center during school hours or reach out to Ms. Gurley at nicole.gurley@ocps.net. |

Last week, our Performing Arts Center was filled with sweeping melodies and resounding applause as our orchestra took the stage for their annual Fall Concert.
The concert featured our Concert Orchestra, Sinfonia Orchestra, Counterpoint Orchestra, and Chamber Orchestra (pictured above). The evening culminated with the Combined Orchestra playing Dolly Parton's I Will Always Love You in their pink cowboy hats (pictured below).
Beyond celebrating months of artistic dedication, the evening carried a deeply meaningful purpose: 100% of all ticket proceeds were donated directly to Kids Beating Cancer, directly supporting pediatric cancer patients and their families.
Thank you to Mr. Fanara, our talented students, and our incredible parent volunteers for helping to make this concert a huge success! |
