Many of our Braves will begin testing for PMA 1 (Progress Monitoring Assessment 1) this week. The PMA 1 occurs during the first nine-week quarter and serves as a baseline score, allowing teachers to track student progress in learning the Florida Department of Education B.E.S.T. Standards (Benchmarks for Excellent Student Thinking) from PMA 1 to PMA 2.
The first half of October will be a busy period, including Homecoming. Please note that we will hold our monthly SAC meeting Tuesday, October 6, at 5:30 pm, and, as always, all members of our Boone community are welcome and encouraged to attend. The primary focus of these meetings is discussion of our ongoing school improvement efforts, so community feedback is greatly appreciated.

Break out the Hawaiian shirts, fanny packs, bucket hats, and socks with sandals! Dress like you’re on a wacky tropical vacation or exploring a landmark for the first time. Don't forget your sunglasses and printed map!

It’s time for the ultimate showdown!

We will be on a modified schedule September 29-October 1 for students in Algebra 1, Geometry, Biology, and U.S. History to complete the Performance Monitoring Assessment (PMA) 1. Please be mindful of the schedule change as you plan your week. |
We are having our first Connectivity Day of the year on Friday, October 2nd and there will be a modified bell schedule. During Connectivity Day, students will be able to participate in games and activities with their peers all around campus. We will also be celebrating Homecoming Week and presenting the Homecoming Court. |

Boone’s Pickleball Club enjoyed an exciting evening of open play at Fort Gatlin! Club members had the opportunity to practice their skills, meet new players, and enjoy some friendly competition on the courts. Whether you are an experienced player or trying pickleball for the first time, everyone is welcome to join the fun. Open play is held every Thursday from 5:30–6:30 p.m. at Fort Gatlin. Grab your paddle and come play with us! |
To celebrate the arrival of Fergus, our staffulty is passing around Fergus Jr. to the person of their choice on campus. That person will proudly display Fergus Jr. in their classroom or office for a week before presenting him to someone new. Stay tuned to Totem Talk to see where Fergus Jr. goes next. |
This week Mrs. Williamson had to let Fergus leave Criminal Justice. She passed him to the Great Sarah Speight. Mrs. Speight is an incredible English Teacher. She is the master at mastery grading and allowing students to revise their work. Mrs. Speight is a great mentor to other teachers. On a more personal note, Mrs. Speight was the English Teacher for Mrs. Williamson's son Christian. Christian never enjoyed English until having Ms. Speight in the 9th grade. Christian not only loved her but also her class. His reading and writing scores increased significantly in her classroom. Christian was able to realize his dream of attending West Point undoubtedly because of the reading and writing growth he made in her classroom. The Williamson Family will always be appreciative of her. Good luck, Fergus. I see a book and a Socratic seminar in your future. 🙂 |

Students’ Bright Futures evaluations are now available in Xello:

Bright Futures is a merit-based scholarship that helps eligible Florida students pay for college or career education in Florida.
Class of 2027 requirements include:
• Florida Academic Scholars: 3.5 Bright Futures GPA, 1330 SAT/29 ACT/95 CLT, and 100 approved volunteer or paid-work hours
• Florida Medallion Scholars: 3.0 Bright Futures GPA, 1190 SAT/24 ACT/82 CLT, and 75 volunteer hours or 100 paid-work hours
• Required college-preparatory courses must also be completed.
• Students may also qualify through an AICE Diploma or AP Capstone Diploma pathway. Required volunteer or paid-work hours still apply.

Our Braves fell to the Timber Creek Wolves, 28–7. This was our first of 3 District games this season.
Game Recap: Early Spark, Complete Control
The Wolves came out firing in the first quarter, orchestrating a crisp opening drive that ended in the end zone to grab a fast 7–0 lead. Boone’s defense scrambled to find answers, but Timber Creek’s offense kept pushing the tempo in the second quarter, tacking on two more scores to head into halftime with a comfortable 20–0 advantage.
Coming out of the break, the Wolves maintained their stranglehold on the game. A strong third-quarter drive capped by a successful two-point conversion pushed the Timber Creek lead to 28–0.
We managed to break the shutout with a hard-fought touchdown drive in the fourth quarter, but Timber Creek’s defense slammed the door shut on any potential comeback.
Come out this Friday as we host the Horizon Hawks for our Homecoming Game on October 2. Kick-off is at 7 pm.
