Ms. Nadine is the heart and soul of our Exceptional Student Education (ESE) department. Her infinite patience, warm encouragement, and unwavering support create an environment where every student feels seen, valued, and empowered to succeed. Whether assisting with classroom learning, helping navigate daily routines, or offering a gentle word of encouragement, Ms. Nadine makes a profound impact on our school community each and every day.

We meet on the first Tuesday of every month throughout the school year and would love to have you join us!

Ms. Monaco’s class enjoyed a meaningful visit to the cafeteria, where the guest speaker, our very own food manager, Ismael, introduced students to the business of food. Students learned about following food safety rules, monitoring temperatures, making food choices, managing a budget, understanding where the money that buys our breakfast and lunches comes from, and how it is spent. The visit gave students a real-world look at how a cafeteria operates as a business and the many decisions involved in providing meals for our school community. The students wrapped up the presentation by asking thoughtful questions and showing great curiosity about what they had learned.

Students in Ms. Mohs's class took on a close reading of the myth of Prometheus, the Titan who defied the gods to bring fire and knowledge to humanity. Rather than just reading the text for basic plot points, Ms. Mohs challenged her class to analyze the deeper themes of sacrifice, rebellion, and consequence.

The lesson began with a collaborative guided reading. Ms. Mohs assisted students in active annotation techniques, pausing to unpack complex vocabulary, tone shifts, and character motivations with the entire class. Students actively responded to teacher-led prompts, connecting Prometheus’s choices to timeless modern questions about ethics, power, and human progress. Transitioning from group discussion to focused quiet work, students applied their close-reading strategies independently to answer textual analysis questions, citing specific evidence from the myth to justify their answers.

Next, her students will read an excerpt from Frankenstein, applying the same analysis technique. It was great to see students critically think as they experienced the text.

Our Agriculture Department has a big update, and it comes on four surprisingly short, fluffy legs! This month, our campus welcomed a Miniature Highland cow, the newest member of our livestock program. With its shaggy coat, sweeping bangs, and docile temperament, our mini Highland has quickly captured the hearts of students and staff alike. Because Miniature Highlands are known for their gentle and calm dispositions, students who are new to large animal science can safely learn halter training, halter leading, and general stockmanship without the intimidation factor of a 1,200-pound steer.

To celebrate the arrival of Fergus, our staffulty will pass around Fergus Jr. to the person on campus of their choosing. That person will proudly display Fergus Jr. in their classroom or office for a week before presenting him to someone new. Stay tuned to Totem Talk to see where Fergus Jr. goes next.

It was a true honor to receive Fergus Jr. last week from Mrs. Pastran! Little Fergus Jr. had a great time hanging out with the Oller clan, but he is ready to move on to greener pastures. He now gets to experience the best of both worlds by staying with Mrs. Hilley and Ms. Lang! Not only are Mrs. Hilley and Ms. Lang FANTASTIC English teachers, but they are also phenomenal friends to me and fundamental, faithful cornerstones of our Boone family. Both give countless hours of their time to help Brave students become the best versions of themselves. Fergus Jr. will have the best time traveling between their classrooms next week!

From August 10th to August 15th, 2026, the city of Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, served as the international stage for a new edition of Miss Tourism World, an event that brought together representatives from different countries to celebrate beauty, culture, tourism, and the diversity of the participating nations.

For several days, an intense schedule of activities was in place, allowing contestants to demonstrate far more than their physical beauty. Each day was filled with activities in which participants had the chance to demonstrate their personality, elegance, communication skills, and ability to represent the tourist attractions and cultural heritage of their respective countries. The 2026 edition was presented as a special celebration of the pageant’s tenth anniversary, highlighting its mission to connect cultures and promote international tourism.

The participants had the opportunity to share information about their countries, traditions, tourist destinations, cuisine, and cultural heritage, turning the competition into an international cultural exchange.

One of the most important stages of the process was the interview with the judges, where each contestant had the opportunity to demonstrate their preparation, confidence, personality, knowledge, and communication skills. This stage provided an opportunity to learn more about the participants and evaluate their ability to represent their communities. Miss Tourism World went beyond being a beauty competition and became a platform for promoting destinations, cultures, and tourism experiences.

After successfully completing the entire competition process, Boone senior Fabiagles Bolufer was crowned the new Teen Tourism World 2026, proudly carrying Cuba’s representation onto the international stage. Her victory represents an important recognition of her preparation, discipline, charisma, and performance throughout the different stages of the competition.

The Miss Tourism World 2026 experience in Punta Cana, therefore, left a message that goes beyond a crown: tourism is a powerful tool for bringing cultures together, creating opportunities, and showcasing the identity and richness of every country to the world.

Boone High School students interested in participating in Valencia College Dual Enrollment for the Spring semester should review upcoming eligibility and testing requirements. Students in grades 9 through 11 must have a minimum 3.0 unweighted cumulative high school GPA to be eligible to apply. Seniors must have a minimum 3.0 weighted cumulative high school GPA. Students who meet these requirements may continue the application process by completing the Postsecondary Education Readiness Test, commonly known as the P.E.R.T.

 

Registration for the P.E.R.T. opens on September 1, 2026, and closes on September 15, 2026, at 2:20 p.m. The registration link will be available through the Brave Hub beginning September 1. Students must take and pass the P.E.R.T. in order to apply for Spring Dual Enrollment. Students with questions regarding testing should review the information posted in the Brave Hub, while questions about Dual Enrollment opportunities and requirements may be directed to Ms. Gurley. Dual Enrollment offers students the opportunity to earn college credit while still enrolled at Boone High School and can be an excellent pathway toward future academic success. Forever Brave!

Boone High School students now have access to a new Canvas resource titled "HS Hub - How to Read Your Transcript." The self-paced course was created to help students and families better understand the information contained within a high school transcript, including GPA calculations, credits earned, course history, and academic progress toward graduation. All students have been automatically enrolled and can access the course through Canvas.

 

The resource consists of six short instructional videos with embedded quizzes and can typically be completed in 15 to 20 minutes. While participation is not required, the course serves as a valuable tool for students and families as they prepare for course selection, college admissions, scholarships, Dual Enrollment opportunities, and graduation planning. Boone counselors have also been enrolled in the course and are available to support students as they navigate their academic records. 

Congressman Frost is hosting a Service Academy Info Session in Orange County to provide local students and their families with essential information about the opportunities and benefits of attending a U.S. Service Academy. Congressman Frost aims to help interested candidates understand the application process, eligibility requirements, and the commitment involved in serving in the military. The session is an opportunity to ensure that Orange County residents are well-informed about these prestigious and challenging educational paths.

Our Braves kicked off the regular season in dramatic fashion Friday night, defending home turf against the Apopka Blue Darters with a thrilling 21-14 victory. Despite an hour-long weather delay before kickoff, the Braves stayed locked in and weathered an early storm to start the year 1-0.

After Apopka struck first following a fumble recovery, Boone’s defense tightened the screws and held the Blue Darters in check through the core of the game. Boone’s ground game found its rhythm in the second quarter. Back-to-back rushing touchdowns erased the deficit and put the Braves ahead 14-7 before halftime. The defense delivered deep in Apopka territory in the third quarter, setting up another powerful goal-line push to extend the advantage to 21-7. When Apopka made a late push to bring the game within seven points with under two minutes remaining, Boone's offense executed down the stretch, draining the clock down to secure the 21-14 victory.
