Message From Dr. Maestre

What a great first week of school! The support we have received from our families, PTSO, and partners leading up to day one has been greatly appreciated. Our teachers, school counselors, coaches, and staff have also been incredible, working steadily for several weeks now. And after four days, our Braves are settling in to our routines, learning about OCPS Code of Student Conduct policies, and engaging in their classes very well.

Looking ahead, students will have an opportunity this Tuesday and Wednesday to participate in our annual Club Rush. One of the best ways to build success in high school is to be involved. Studies show that students who participate in extracurricular activities perform better academically than those who do not. Moreover, this is a great way to make friends and get better connected as part of the high school experience. Opportunities at Boone include athletic programs, clubs, and organizations for students throughout the year. We believe there is something of interest for all of our Braves. If you are interested in learning more about any of these opportunities, please visit the athletics and clubs tabs on the web page.

As we begin this second week of school, here's to a year filled with curiosity, growth, and remarkable achievements. If week number one is any indication of what lies ahead for our Braves, then 2026-2027 will be a most inspiring and successful school year!

As always, thank you for reading!

Forever Brave,

Hector Maestre, Ed.D.
Principal

AC Update

Thank you for your patience and understanding as we experienced issues with our AC system this past week. This weekend, our Facilities team and emergency repair crews worked to repair our campus air conditioning system.

We will continue to monitor building and classroom temperatures every day. If necessary, we will relocate classrooms to cooler areas. Updates will continue to be shared through Parent Square.

Announcement from BHS: No food deliveries or drop-offs for students. Free breakfast and lunch are available in the cafeteria.

All Students Receive Free Breakfast and Lunch!

As we settle into the new school year, we want to share a quick reminder regarding campus safety procedures during lunch, as well as an exciting reminder about our school meal program.

To maintain a secure campus environment and minimize instructional disruptions, we do not allow outside food deliveries for students during the school day.
  • Food deliveries and drop offs are not permitted.
  • Food brought to the main office will not be accepted or held for students.
This procedure ensures our front office staff can focus on visitor security and prevents unauthorized individuals from accessing campus grounds.

Remember, all students receive free breakfast and free lunch every school day.

Have You Met Fergus?

Our Agriculture Department has a big update, and it comes on four surprisingly short, fluffy legs! This month, our campus welcomed a Miniature Highland cow, the newest member of our livestock program. With its shaggy coat, sweeping bangs, and docile temperament, our mini Highland has quickly captured the hearts of students and staff alike. Because Miniature Highlands are known for their gentle and calm dispositions, students who are new to large animal science can safely learn halter training, halter leading, and general stockmanship without the intimidation factor of a 1,200-pound steer.

To celebrate the arrival of Fergus, our staffulty will pass around Fergus Jr. to the person on campus of their choosing. That person will proudly display Fergus Jr. in their classroom or office for a week before presenting him to someone new. Stay tuned to Totem Talk to see where Fergus Jr. goes next.

Below are the first 2 presentations of Fergus Jr. He was presented to Ms. Pastran to begin the school year, and this past week, Ms. Pastran presented him to Ms. Oller.

Dr. Maestre Presents Fergus Jr. to Ms. Pastran

Ms. Pastran is a phenomenal teacher and has been instrumental in the development and growth of our Agriculture Program. Through her tireless dedication and belief in every student, she has transformed our ag courses into one of the most vibrant and engaging pathways on campus.

Her leadership has expanded the program’s scope far beyond the traditional classroom. Under Ms. Pastran’s guidance, students gain authentic, hands-on experience. She has consistently championed modern learning, creating an environment where students don't just study concepts in a textbook. Equally impactful is her commitment to building confidence and leadership outside of the school day. As our FFA advisor, Ms. Pastran works late evenings and weekends to coach competition teams, prepare students for public speaking, and mentor them through supervised agricultural experiences. Her enthusiasm is contagious, inspiring students to step outside their comfort zones and take pride in their achievements.

Ms. Pastran Presents Ferjus Jr. to Ms. Oller

Mrs. Oller is a fantastic teacher, and her dedication to Boone and the start of a successful school year was noticed by all! She did a phenomenal job organizing our start-of-the-year pep rally to get new and continuing students excited about the new school year and upcoming spirit days/homecoming. Her tireless commitment to the success of all things Boone is inspiring! She has been a huge supporter of the agriculture program - especially with our partnership and support of Pua and our annual Kiss the Pig program.
