Message From Dr. Maestre

Classes begin this Tuesday morning, and the countdown to the start of the 2026-2027 school year is officially over! I am excited to welcome our students, staffulty members, and parents to Boone High School. As is our school culture, we are starting a year of rigorous, relevant, and engaging work in every classroom, along with a wide range of athletics, performing arts, and other exciting extracurricular activities.

We greatly value the communication connection between home and school and encourage you to contact us when needed and to stay in the know about your student's studies, assignments, assessments, and school activities. Stay up to date with our website, Skyward Family Access, Parent Square, and Boone social media. If you need anything, please email us at boone_hs@ocps.net, and a member of our team will get back to you.

All students are automatically enrolled in our student Canvas page, The Brave Hub. On that site, you can find student-specific information, including calendars, school resources, Student Services, Discipline, and other departments to help you navigate the year.

If you haven't already, I encourage you to take a few moments to watch the welcome video at the top of this Community Brief. It was created by our digital video students and showcases current and former students who are Forever Brave!

Again, welcome to the 2026-2027 school year and thank you for reading!

Forever Brave,

Hector Maestre, Ed.D.
Principal

Bell schedule for Tuesday, August 11th, the first day of school assemblies.

First Day of School: Tuesday, August 11

We are continuing our first day of school tradition with a modified schedule so we can host class assemblies and a pep rally. Please take note of the schedule in the graphic above for Tuesday, August 11. During lunch, all students will receive a Boone High School spirit shirt. Thank you to our PTSO volunteers who will help distribute the shirts! We hope that all of our students have a memorable first day of school as we begin what will undoubtedly be a phenomenal year!

Schedule Review and Schedule Change Information

Student schedules are available in Skyward. Please keep in mind that our team is continuing to review schedules and make adjustments to ensure accurate student placement. Students are encouraged to review their schedules carefully and report any potential errors, such as a course already completed, a duplicate course, an out-of-sequence course, or a missing prerequisite. Students interested in requesting a course change will also have an opportunity to do so. Complete information, deadlines, course availability, and form links are available at https://boonehs.ocps.net/schedulechange. The form will be available through August 14.

At Boone, our goal is to help students build schedules that support their academic goals, graduation plans, and future aspirations. Because our master schedule serves more than 2,700 students, available seats may be limited in many courses and class periods, particularly in elective and fine arts offerings. We encourage students to explore available options, advocate for what best supports their goals, and understand that schedule changes depend on seat availability, prerequisite requirements, graduation needs, and overall scheduling constraints.

Our counseling team will carefully review every submission, and students will receive an automated email once their request has been processed. While we work to accommodate as many requests as possible, availability may change throughout the review process, and students requesting the same course may receive different outcomes based on scheduling compatibility and the number of available seats at the time their request is reviewed. Final schedules will be available in students' 1st period classes on the first day of school. We appreciate your patience and partnership as we work to support a successful start to the school year for all Boone students.

School Bus Information

All students eligible for school bus transportation must complete a School Bus Registration Form annually.  Routing Specialists work with school staffing specialists to ensure that students with special needs receive transportation services in accordance with their Individualized Education Plan (IEP). Students enrolled in the Magnet Program are not eligible for transportation.

Gather Required Information:

  • Know your child's 10-digit Student Identification Number.
  • Ensure your primary address is updated in Skyward.
  • If there's a change that needs to be made to a student's address, the school registrar must be informed to make an update in the student's record in Skyward.
  • Students are only routed to the home address on file with the school.

To be eligible for school bus transportation, a student’s address must be more than two (2) miles from the zoned school, as defined by Florida Department of Education Rules 6A-3.001, Basic Principles for Transportation of Students.

Visit the Find My Bus webpage to check eligibility for bus transportation.

If your address is eligible and you intend to use school bus transportation for your child, please fill out the Student Bus Registration Form linked above.
