Message From Dr. Maestre

The month of February seems to be passing even more quickly than January! This upcoming Thursday we have our second state-mandated 'Resiliency Day' and progress reports for the 3rd nine-week quarter were posted to Skyward Family Access last week on Thursday (2-minute parent video on accessing progress reports through Skyward).

If you have yet to review your student's progress report with them, please do so over the three-day Presidents' Day weekend. Mid February is an excellent time to discuss academic progress so far this quarter and to also talk about any personal goals your student may have set out at the beginning of the new year. When our parents/guardians take even just a few minutes each week to discuss classwork and progress vs. personal goals, student performance is most favorably affected.

We are moving full steam ahead through quarter three. At this point, we have passed the halfway point of the quarter and I continue to see amazing things in our classrooms on a day to day basis. Everyday I am grateful for the wonderful teachers that we have here on campus. I have a selfless group of professionals who pour positive energy into our students and show tenacity and grit in our pursuit of excellence. This was on display at our Pop-In' conferences this past Wednesday when parents and teachers had the opportunity to sit together and go over their students' academic and behavior concerns and create collaborative plans to aid in their students' success the rest of the quarter.

There are 4 week remaining in the quarter. I encourage every Brave to make the most of it and do their absolute best!

As always, thank you for reading!

Forever Brave,

Hector Maestre, Ed.D.
Principal

Scholarships

Money is everywhere right now for seniors that are looking to help pay for postsecondary options. Number 1 priority would be completing the FAFSA, Free Application for Federal Student Aid. https://studentaid.gov/ If students have not completed this form yet, they will be sent down from an elective to complete it with Mrs. Gurley starting on Monday. They will need to know their SSN. After their process is complete, the parent will receive an email in order to complete his/her portion. If a student does not have a SSN or the parent is unwilling to submit the FAFSA, here is a link for the student to complete https://tinyurl.com/FAFSAoptout2026 Please email nicole.gurley@ocps.net with any questions.

For scholarships, there are a ton out there right now, students just have to apply. They can stop in the College and Career Center for any assistance.
