Message From Dr. Maestre

I hope this finds your November off to an excellent start! I know thoughts of Thanksgiving break (Nov. 24-28) will naturally be on everyone's mind beginning this week, but I challenge our Braves to remain focused.

We are already into week four of the second quarter and even though it feels like it is moving fast, we are just hitting the mid-way point of the second leg in a long journey to the finish line. In this long journey, we must build up our endurance to complete the goal of finishing what we have started strong. Sometimes when we think of endurance, we think of a marathon and what it takes to compete in one. The mental and physical exertion a marathon takes on your body can be overwhelming, but the reward is great. Much like a marathon, school can be the same way for our students and staff. It is important for each of us to be here everyday, so we can build the endurance necessary to perform at the highest levels when it matters most and make Boone even more special than it is.

I am looking forward to a great start to November!

As always, thank you for reading!

Forever Brave,

Dr. Maestre
Principal

Battle for the Barrel

This past Thursday Night our varsity football team competed against the Edgewater Eagles in the annual Battle for the Barrel. This is a rivalry that goes back to when Boone and Edgewater opened in 1952, after splitting from Orlando High School. This year the Braves fell to the Eagles, 28-7.

We may not have gotten the result we wanted but we are so incredibly proud of our football team. They played hard. They played smart. And most importantly, they played with class. Coach Andy Johnson and his coaching staff are phenomenal and we are excited to see them take our team into the playoffs next week.

We want to thank the Edgewater High School students, staffulty, and parents for a great night of football!

Marching Band Music Performance Assessment (MPA)

This weekend, our Sound of the Braves Marching Band, led by Mr. Josh Jackson, stole the show at MPA’s with their performance show. Our band students did an amazing job and earned straight superiors from the judges! The grace and class displayed by our students and staff at MPA’s truly showed how much they are committed to excellence. We were impressed by their performance and proud of their hard work!

Classroom Spotlight - Ms. Diaz

Students in Ms. Diaz's English classroom recently engaged in a consensus placemat activity to deepen their understanding of The Odyssey. Working in small groups, they shared insights, analyzed key themes, and built consensus around the epic’s central ideas. This collaborative strategy encouraged thoughtful discussion and critical thinking, bringing Homer’s classic tale to life in a meaningful and engaging way.

Walking Traditions

Written and photographed by Hannah Valera

Before Homecoming took place, the student body took its spirit to the streets on October 23, in the preceding parade. The event brought current students, staff and local residents together to collectively celebrate school tradition. “I enjoyed seeing everyone support one another,” freshman Lilly Trimble said. “It was my first Homecoming Parade and [it] exceeded my expectations.”
The parade also acted as an opportunity to showcase student creativity. Posters and floats were handmade and used to differentiate which groups students were walking for. Besides showing off student art, they highlighted the official Homecoming Court, clubs and sports teams.
“It was fun to see the different designs,” junior Addison Allman said. “You can tell a lot of effort was put into making them.”
Parents and peers stood on sidewalks, getting to share the experience as they cheered on students riding down the neighborhood. “It made me feel appreciated knowing they came to support me,” junior Mya Pugh said. The Homecoming Parade serves as a portrayal of student dedication. While the parade marks the end of the Homecoming season, the celebrations continue throughout the year.
