Thank you to everyone who helped to make Homecoming 2025 a huge success! Events like this are only possible with the support of our school community. Our Student Government Association, school staffulty members, and PTSO volunteers came together and hosted an incredible event for our students and I am so appreciative of all the support! Take a moment to check out the pictures below.
This Thursday, October 30, 2025-2026 Quarter 1 report cards will be posted online to Skyward Family Access and a printed copy will be sent home. Our overarching goal with reporting student progress is to make it clearer for our Boone families as to the growth and learning for every student. Once you review the report cards, please take the time to review your student's progress from the first nine weeks. When it comes to parental involvement in their child's education, these 1:1 report card discussions are among the most important of the entire school year. This is especially important now as there is more than enough time left to make learning gains if a student is not quite where they should be.
As always, thank you for reading!
Forever Brave,
Dr. Maestre
Principal

On Saturday, October 11th 2025, Boone’s NJRTOC Marksmanship team went out to Oviedo High School for a Marksmanship competition. The Marksmanship A team lead by, Jacob Arias made Boone proud by placing first in their competition, and the B team placed 8th out of 17 other teams. We asked the teams earlier this year what their goals and ambitions were for this season, and this is what they said. The Marksmanship team leader, Jacob Arias, a junior, stated that his goals for this year were to “Go to Navy nationals, and JROTC nationals. Improve not only as a team but also as individuals when it comes to marksmanship.” This competition has shown that Arias is setting his plan for this season into motion and leading his team to success.
Another member of the team we interviewed, Olivia Irrer, a junior on Marksmanship A team stated that her personal goal for this season is, “Work on improving my breathing, my bulls-eye approach and just improving my technique, and more bulls-eyes.” The leading score for A team was Matthew Villeda, who won four metals and ended with an amazing score of 263. Villeda stated that his team and personal goals for this season were, “To make it to nationals and to improve my marksmanship capabilities, work on stretching before practices, and compete better.”
We also interviewed Rylee King, a junior on the B team, and asked her what her goals for this season were, this is what she said… “Going to the Navy nationals and regionals with both teams, and personally improve my follow-through, and taking my time as well” King has shown that she is striving to improve herself by finishing with a great score of 240 leading B team, and has also gave us some insight to how she and her team were feeling on Saturday, “In my opinion, it was very relaxing because it was also raining that day so it calmed me down a bit, there were a lot of people behind me in the stands, and my team felt that they did very well.”
Leading up to their 1st place finish at Oviedo, the Boone NJROTC Marksmanship team also took 3rd on the 27th of September at Central High School, and 4th on the 6th of October showcasing their dedication, teamwork and determination to improve. Each member demonstrated not only impressive shooting skills but also a clear commitment to personal growth and leadership. With this competition making a strong start to the season, the team is well on their way to achieving their goals of reaching nationals and leaving a legacy of excellence.

This week, students in Ms. Genosa’s science class engaged in a hands-on lab to deepen their understanding of enzymes and their role in biological processes. The experiment focused on observing the effects of different environmental conditions on enzyme activity using apple slices as the test subject.
Students placed apple slices in three distinct environments:
-
Acidic solution (to simulate low pH conditions)
-
Cold water (to observe the impact of temperature)
-
Control environment (room temperature, neutral pH)
Through careful observation and documentation, students explored how enzymes respond to changes in pH and temperature—key factors that influence their function in living organisms. The lab sparked thoughtful discussion and curiosity about real-world applications, from food preservation to human biology.
Ms. Genosa’s lesson exemplifies the power of experiential learning, bringing science to life in the classroom!

During our recent unit on plant biology, students explored the campus to observe local vegetation and apply their learning about what plants need to thrive. On that walk, the class discovered a struggling plant—wilted and fading in a quiet corner of the school grounds. Moved by its condition, student Giovanny took action. Since that day, he has faithfully watered the plant every morning, nurturing it back to health. Just last week, a new leaf emerged—a sign of life and resilience. Giovanny affectionately named it Son of Romero, and it now stands as a living testament to care and commitment. Feel free to visit the plant and witness its progress—or stop by Room 2-206 to thank Giovanny for his inspiring act of stewardship!

Homecoming season at Boone High School always brings a buzz of excitement—and our Digital Design students played a special role in the festivities. Each year, they create original digital designs for Homecoming buttons, which are sold and distributed throughout Homecoming Week. The designs are submitted to the Student Government Association, where students vote to select the top three. These winning designs are then printed and shared with our amazing students in the ESE department, who take on the important task of cutting and assembling the buttons under the guidance of Mrs. Scott. This tradition not only showcases student creativity, but also fosters collaboration and school spirit across programs. It’s a true example of what makes Boone so special!

Mrs. Pastran’s Animal Science 3 goes to the farm! Mrs. Pastran’s students visited Against the Grain Ranch to learn about their Angus Grass-fed Beef and Highland Cattle Agrotourism operations. The students were engaged in discussions about the Beef Industry, the benefits of Agrotourism, and went through the logistics of Ranch Operations. It was a great day filled with learning and fluffy cow hugs!

Boone Publications’ Instagram series What’s Up Wednesdays drops short, conversational video interviews each week that highlight students, staff, and campus events.
The series is hosted by senior journalist Wesley Hoyer and produced by senior journalist Kai Race. The format blends quick questions with candid answers, giving viewers a snapshot of school life in under two minutes.
“We try to get a wide variety of students and questions so that nobody feels left out. It’s all about bringing the school and community together,” Hoyer said.
Since its launch, episodes have covered topics from first-week reflections to pop culture. The series is posted as Instagram Reels across Boone Journalism’s social channels. The funny and upbeat pacing, paired with an on-campus focus, has boosted engagement among classmates and staff.
“It was great to be interviewed and make my voice heard. [Wesley] is so great at being genuine and non confrontational,” junior Zander Zara said. Zara was interviewed in episode three of the series.
The show’s strengths are its accessibility and student-centered perspective: Episodes are easy to produce and invite participation with a wide range of viewpoints, from athletes to student leaders.
“I love that we can give everyone a voice. That’s what it’s all about,” Hoyer said.
