What Is It?

HOPE IS A GRADUATION REQUIREMENT. The purpose of this course is to develop and enhance healthy behaviors that influence lifestyle choices and student health and fitness. Students will realize the full benefit of this course when it is taught with an integrated approach. 

In addition to the physical education content represented in the benchmarks below, specific health education topics within this course include, but are not limited to: Mental/Social Health, Physical Activity, Nutrition and Wellness, Diseases and Disorders, First Aid/CPR, Alcohol, Tobacco, and Drug Prevention, Human Sexuality including Abstinence and HIV, and Internet Safety

Team Sports
What Is It?

This course is designed to provide students with opportunities to acquire knowledge and skills for team sports such as basketball, volleyball, and weight training to improve personal fitness. The course will include in-depth knowledge and application of the fundamentals of personal fitness, sport-specific skills, techniques, strategy, officiating, as well as the rules and safety necessary to successfully play volleyball. 

Rules, strategies, and skills of the sport, to identify the importance of teamwork, to understand the benefits of warming up and cooling down, to identify and practice safe strategies to prevent injuries, to learn the benefits of maintaining good flexibility, to understand the importance of maintaining high levels of personal fitness, to identify lifetime activities to maintain overall health.
